BART Beacons

Bristol Avon Rivers Trust (BART) is a community led organisation which aims to deliver education, land and river management advice and practical river restoration work in the Bristol Avon catchment. Through promoting an ecosystem-based approach, they aim to re-connect communities to their rivers and help river users and lovers better appreciate and improve their local rivers and streams.

To help them in their work, BART use local volunteers to act as BART Beacons (see attached PDF) who let them know about anything of interest or concern. This can range from things such as fly tipping in the river, pollution events or longer term changes in wildlife. Beacons can also report positive changes too and even local river related activities or events which may be of interest.

BART Beacons range from community groups to anglers, dog walkers and people who care about their local river. They are aiming to build up a network of Beacons across the catchment, this way they can monitor a much greater area than if they were operating alone.

Village Action is currently registered as a BART Beacon locally to tie in with our work in riverfly monitoring, balsam clearing and rubbish removal from the Frome. You could register yourself as a BART Beacon or you could contact us with any issues which you'd like to raise.
