“An Utterly Good Man –The life of F. D. Maurice”

Frederick Denison Maurice was an academic, Victorian vicar and author, who established colleges for the education of both women and men, believed that capitalism was rooted in greed and helped to give legal status to co-operative bodies such as working men’s associations. He was a member of the Royal Commission discussing the Acts of law which gave police the right to arrest prostitutes, forcibly medically examine them and confine them in a lock up hospital.

"Professor Maurice remained firmly and conscientiously opposed to the Acts to the very last." Close, Francis (1872).
