Merlin Housing Society Proposed Redevelopment

Merlin Housing Society are proposing a significant redevelopment of properties they manage in the Oldlands Avenue/Ridings Road area. Their plans currently show an increase of 60%, from 40 to 64 residences.  They have been holding a series of consultation events to meet the residents and homeowners who form part of the proposed redevelopment site. They have held the following events to date.
  • July – tenant consultation event, to review draft site design, gain local knowledge and discuss any concerns
  • August – community consultation event, to discuss proposals with tenants and residents directly neighbouring the site, again to gain local knowledge and discuss any concerns raised.
Concerns have already been raised by existing residents who will have to vacate their homes while the redevelopment takes place and by neighbours who are concerned about the impact of changes on their properties. On the other hand, Merlin believe that many of the properties suffer from problems such as damp and draughts and that unless work is carried out, they will develop structural problems in the years to come.

The final consultation event will be held on Wed 4th September at the Miners Club between 3pm and 7pm to reveal the draft plans for the redevelopment sites.

All residents are welcome to attend.
