Those of you who enjoyed the first book of photographs containing historic images of Frampton Cotterell and Coalpit Heath will be interested to know that a second book will be available in July 2012.

This new collection of  photographs depicts the people, schools, organisations, events and history of the area. Over 200 images are drawn from a fund of largely unpublished archive material, providing a photographic record from the late Victorian period to the 1980s.

A fascinating feature of this publication is the inclusion of recently discovered pictures taken by an Edwardian amateur lady photographer, Miss Dorothy Hewitt, niece of the local coal mine manager, whose portfolio of photographs has come to be known as the ‘Hewitt Collection’. Also included are photographs that document the transformation of the Foote family from humble beginnings as hatters in Frampton Cotterell, to their involvement in the setting up of one of the first retail businesses in Ipswich, Australia.

This pictorial history will delight everyone who has lived, worked or simply passed through this part of South Gloucestershire.

The book will be on sale locally at Nisa, Green’s and Frome Valley Farm Shop, priced £12.99
