Ram Hill Colliery

The historically important site of Ram Hill Colliery is located in Broad Lane, Coalpit Heath.  Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, the site has been largely cleared of vegetation to reveal a fascinating insight into the industrial past of the area.

The photo below shows where the Dramway, the horse drawn railway linking the South Gloucestershire coalfields to the River Avon, terminated at the colliery site.

The site is open for visitors to wander around, an information leaflet is available at the gate.  If you go along on a Wednesday, you will probably meet some of the volunteers working on the site who will be happy to share their enthusiasm with you.

Much work still needs to be done and additional volunteers are always welcome. If you can come along on a Wednesday (10am-4pm) or the 2nd or 4th Sunday of the month (10am-4pm) for even an hour it would be very much appreciated.

There will also be a Heritage Open Day on Sunday September 11th (10am to 4.30pm).
