The Safer Stronger Community Group held its latest meeting at Iron Acton Village Hall on Tuesday 14 June 2011.

Many topics of interest to the community were discussed including:

  • Good Neighbourhood schemes.  A booklet explaining these schemes is available from South Gloucestershire Council
  • Noisy vehicles.  A noisy motor cycle is regularly causing annoyance to residents in Frampton Cotterell.  The community police undertook to investigate further.
  • Drug usage in the community.  Disturbance and anti social behaviour associated with drug usage is a serious problem for residents where it occurs and is taken seriously by the community police.  However it was emphasised that the problem tends to be localised and is not widespread in the community.
  • Proposed closure of Frampton End Road.  Following assessment, a proposal to close part of Frampton End Road between Iron Acton and the lane to Mayshill is being considered.
  • Green dog walker scheme.  The meeting supported the idea of the Green Dog Walker scheme which is being considerd by South Glos Council.
The next meeting of the group is at 7:30pm on 21st September 2011 at St Saviour's Church Hall, Coalpit Heath.  As well as learning about what is going on in the community this is an opportunity for residents to raise matters of concern with the police, the fire service or the local council.  Everyone is welcome
